On Friday 11th of October, young people from the parish, parish school and local area spent the first afternoon of the half term break with our new organ!
The group enjoyed an interactive demonstration with Fraser, our organist, in which they learned how a pipe organ works, heard the variety of sounds that it can produce and heard various snippets of music in the process.
The young people asked questions about aspects of the organ that they noticed, comparing both of our instruments along the way. The group discussed the role of the organist within the liturgy and even got to blow through an organ pipe!
Everyone’s favourite part was when each of the children was invited to have a go at playing the organ. It was great fun for them to explore the sounds of the instrument and create their own melodies. Some of the young people who had played piano before were able to duet with Fraser who accompanied their performances.
We look forward to more opportunities for people of all ages to come to St Brigid’s to enjoy the new organ in liturgical, educational and concert settings.
